Welcome aboard Gaston Olvera! Gaston has recently joined DCA as a Sr. Project Manager and is truly passionate about school projects, enjoying collaboration and technical aspect of architecture. Raised in Mexico, he completed his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Nuevo León** **and worked in Mexico for a few years before moving to the U.S.
While Gaston has worked in a variety of markets for the past 25 years, his career has been the most fulfilling when he’s focusing on education projects and making a positive impact on students through developing high-quality facilities. “Even with challenges with schedule or cost or unforeseen conditions, once everybody sits down and remembers that it’s all about the kids, things move forward,” he says. Gaston is honored and comforted to know that his work in modernizing the elementary school his children attended in Palo Alto, kept them safe from any potential earthquakes due to the structural improvements that were made.
Gaston loves to mentor new generations of professionals in the construction industry and has found that there’s a gap in this field of employees who are late 30s to mid-40s. He recognizes that younger generations are highly skilled with computers and technology but believes it’s important to also make sure they obtain solid, hands-on training on construction sites.
With three boys, who are now ages 12, 16 and 18, Gaston and his wife have a busy household. They like to travel as a family and take their two dogs, a labradoodle puppy, and a Pomeranian/Maltese mix, for long walks in nature. If he has free time, Gaston loves photography and cooking and shares that his kids don’t have to like the meal, but they do have to try it!
Welcome to the team, Gaston!
